Doing the Scary Thing Anyway

This past weekend, Kendal’Spirit from the blog A Dose of Ken and I did something that felt both exciting and terrifying—we brought our vision of a healing wellness event to life. We’ve both dreamed of creating intentional spaces where marginalized communities could feel seen, held, and restored. Still, stepping into that dream meant confronting a lot of fear.

What if no one came?
What if we weren’t enough?
What if it flopped?

But in those moments of doubt, I reminded myself—I am that girl (in my Beyoncé voice, of course). I reminded myself that fear is loudest when you’re on the brink of something powerful. And I’m so glad we didn’t let it win.

We created something beautiful.

Our event was more than just a gathering—it was a full day of healing and restoration. We intentionally curated a space that spoke to mind, body, and soul. We offered:

🧘🏽‍♀️ Trauma-focused yoga to help attendees reconnect with their bodies and release stored tension in a safe, affirming space.
🌿 Aromatherapy experiences that invited people to use scent as a grounding and soothing tool, reconnecting with calm through intentional breath and sensory awareness.
🎨 Art therapy stations where folks could express their emotions nonverbally and explore their stories through creativity, color, and movement.
📝 Journaling prompts that invited self-reflection, emotional processing, and permission to speak their truth—many people shared that it had been a long time since they simply made space to feel.

The day was filled with laughter, tears, deep conversations, and gentle pauses. We closed with a beautiful panel of passionate, wise voices who offered insight, validation, and a reminder that healing is not just possible—it’s ours to claim.

This experience showed me, again, why doing the scary thing matters. It reminded me of the importance of not waiting until you feel “ready,” because readiness is often a myth. You grow as you do the thing. You heal as you serve.

If you’re sitting on a dream, a purpose, a desire that keeps tugging at your spirit—I hope this encourages you to lean into it. Don’t let fear be the thing that stops you. Let it be the thing that reminds you you’re about to break through something powerful.

Healing spaces are needed. Safe spaces are sacred.
And you—you are more than capable of building them.

With courage and community,
